Presented by: Brace Centre for Water Resources Management
11:30 am to 1:30 pm, Thursday July 30, 2009
At the farm of Wayne Palichuk, 1019 Concession Rd 5, Leamington, Ontario

A three-year project entitled “Increasing water use efficiency and improved nutrient management for processing tomatoes” is underway at Palichuk Farm, Leamington, Ontario. Join the research team and Wayne as they share the results from the first years of the project. Tour the plots, see equipment demonstrations and discuss current findings over a barbeque lunch.

The project is being managed by McGill University’s Brace Centre for Water Resources Management in collaboration with Palichuk Farm, OMAFRA, Hortau, Plant Products and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Funding for this 3-year project was received through the Environmental Sustainability component of OMAFRA's 2008 New Directions Research Program.

For further information, please contact Mr. Apurva Gollamudi, (apurva.gollamudi@mcgill.ca), Brace Centre for Water Resources Management, McGill University or to confirm your attendance call the Ridgetown OMAFRA Resource Centre at (519) 674-1690.

Where to find vegetable research results

If you attended the Ridgetown Vegetable Open House this week, or even if you missed it, you might be interested in these links to vegetable research results.

The results from this season’s research won’t be available until late fall or winter (or even a year or two down the road for multi-year projects), but you can find the results of prior Ridgetown Campus research at http://www.ridgetownc.uoguelph.ca/research/.  Choose Research Reports, from the menu on the right side of the page.

I’ve also been working with the Ridgetown Campus and University of Guelph libraries to create a digital archive of Ontario vegetable research reports.  To date, we have collected almost 400 reports, dating back as far as 1969.  You can browse the reports that have been uploaded so far at ontario.ca/vegresearch.

We are missing many reports, even some fairly recent ones.  If you have copies of research reports by Ontario vegetable researchers, would you be willing to lend them to us or give us a photocopy for scanning to pdf format?  You can contact me to let me know what you have and I’ll check our list of reports to see if it’s one we are missing.

  European corn borer trap counts

Trapping program sponsored by the Ontario Corn Producers Association and the Ontario White Bean Producers.  Thank you to Tracey Baute, OMAFRA; Jocelyn Smith, Ridgetown Campus; and Henry Murillo, Agriculture and AgriFood Canada for supplying the numbers.
