VEGETABLE CROP UPDATETOMATO & PEPPER EDITIONJanice LeBoeuf, OMAFRA Vegetable Crop Specialist Permit to Take Water Workshops
Thursday, March 12, 2009 For more information and to register, contact: Essex County Federation of Agriculture office (519-776-5159) or Gayle Bogart, OFA Member Service Rep (519-776-7960). The workshop is being hosted by the Essex County Federation of Agriculture and OMAFRA. Do you have questions about the permit to take water process or application? Are you required to do an environmental impact study before your permit will be renewed or a new permit issued and looking for technical assistance? OMAFRA and the Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association (OFVGA) may be able to help. John Warbick, OMAFRA Water Quantity Engineer, is conducting a series of meetings across the province to help farmers understand the permit process and provide assistance on how to complete the application for a new permit or a renewal and discuss water supply choices. Each session consists of a presentation on how to complete a permit application and a discussion of water supply choices. Please bring your permit application or current permit. Following the session, John is available to assist farmers on a one-one basis. John can also be reached at 519-426-4920. If you are required to do an environmental study and need technical advice or assistance you may wish to contact George Shearer, surface water specialist with the Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association. Farmers can access technical advice on next steps and for a reasonable fee, OFVGA will work with the producer, complete the technical study and prepare the report. This service is available to all farm irrigators. For more information contact: George Shearer, Surface Water Specialist, OFVGA, 519-763-6160 ext. 219 or water@ofvga.org. Workshops are also scheduled in Simcoe. Permit to take water workshops can also be arranged upon request for any agricultural group in the province. Contact John Warbick, OMAFRA at 519-426-4920 or john.warbick@ontario.ca. Questions? Comments? Give me a call at (519) 674-1699 or email janice.leboeuf@ontario.ca.
